What causes Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?

A UTI occurs when bacteria enter the urinary tract, leading to infection. It’s a common condition—especially among women—and can affect the bladder, urethra, or kidneys. Early treatment can help prevent complications.

When Can We Help?
You may be eligible for support if:

  1. You are female and aged between 18–64
  2. You experience symptoms such as:
  3. Needing to urinate more often than usual (especially at night)
  4. Pain or a burning sensation when urinating
  5. A sudden, urgent need to urinate
  6. Cloudy-looking urine

When to See Your GP

Contact your GP if you notice:

  1. Blood in your urine
  2. Lower abdominal pain

Seek urgent or same-day medical attention if you experience:

  1. Kidney pain (tenderness near your back, just below the ribs)
  2. Nausea or vomiting
  3. Flu-like symptoms
  4. High fever

You should also speak to your GP if you:

  1. Are pregnant
  2. Use a catheter
  3. Have recurring UTIs (2 in 6 months, or 3 in 12 months)
