What is Sinusitis?

Sinusitis is the inflammation or swelling of the sinuses, often caused by a sinus infection. While it usually clears up on its own within a few weeks, more severe or long-lasting symptoms may require treatment with medication.

What are the main signs and symptoms?

We may be able to assist if:

1.You’re an adult, or caring for a child aged 12 or older
2. You’ve recently had a cold or flu, which commonly leads to sinusitis

You have the following symptoms:

1. A cough
2. Toothache
3. Raised temperature (above 38C)
4. A headache with pressure, pain, or tenderness around the eyes, cheeks, and forehead
4. Green or yellow-coloured snot
5. A reduced sense of smell
6. Blocked nose

This service is not suitable for individuals under 16 who are pregnant—they should consult their GP.
You should also see your GP if:

You have a weakened immune system

Your symptoms last longer than 12 weeks (chronic sinusitis)
